Why there is no useful universal price

Permanent lighting is usually priced as a system and an installation. Two homes with similar floor area can require very different linear footage, access equipment, channel work, cable routing, power distribution, and commissioning. Product-only pricing also cannot be compared directly with a fully installed local quote.

The variables that shape equipment cost

The main equipment drivers are light type, module spacing, total run length, channel material and finish, controller capacity, power distribution, connector count, and the amount of custom staging.

  • RGB or RGBW light engine
  • Pixel track or C7/C9 format
  • Roofline length and number of zones
  • Channel finish and profile
  • Control and connectivity
  • Service spares and packaging

The variables that shape installation cost

Height, roof geometry, soffit material, access, local labor, permitting, electrical work, and cable concealment all affect installation. A low, straight roofline is not comparable to multiple peaks, dormers, and difficult rear elevations.

How to request a quote you can compare

Provide the same photos, measurements, desired zones, and performance brief to each bidder. Ask them to identify equipment, mounting, electrical scope, controls, warranty responsibility, and service assumptions. Comparable scope is more valuable than a headline price.

  • Request an itemized system scope
  • Confirm whether electrical work is included
  • Ask how repairs and replacements are handled
  • Compare dedicated white-light capability
  • Confirm who supports the controller
Professional note

Product selection, power distribution, work at height, and electrical connections should follow the system instructions and applicable local requirements. Use a qualified installer where required.
